Count channels and outputs honestly
List every microphone, playback device, instrument, remote feed, record output, livestream feed, stage monitor, lobby feed, and delay zone. Leave capacity for changes rather than selecting a console that is full before rehearsal begins.
Output buses can become the limiting factor even when input count looks adequate. Weddings and corporate events often need several independent zones at different levels.
Evaluate workflow under pressure
Scene recall, channel libraries, tablet control, multitrack recording, built-in processing, and digital stage boxes can save time. They also add configuration and network dependencies that must be understood.
The operator should be able to reach mute groups, feedback controls, playback channels, and priority microphones quickly. A powerful console with a slow show-day workflow is not a good fit.
Design a recovery plan
Save show files, carry local control when remote tablets are used, document network settings, and keep essential playback and announcement paths recoverable.
Training and repeatable templates matter as much as feature count. The strongest choice is a console the team can deploy, troubleshoot, and mix consistently.
